Recycled Fashion in Ljubljana, One of Europe's Green Capitals

This summer, I planned a vacation to Slovenia. One of the reasons I chose this country (and talked my parents into going) was that part of my family came from here to the US in the 19th century. The other big reason is that Slovenia is one of the greenest countries in Europe and the world!

Slovenia's cute, jewel box of a capital, Ljubljana, is the perfect home base for exploring this tiny country, and its baroque city center is a pedestrian-only zone, although you can get a ride on an electric Kavalir shuttle if you like. The picturesque old town is home to countless shops, restaurants, and of course thrift shops and used clothing stores, which of course I made sure to visit when I was there

I really like the Textile House second hand store. Textile House has shops throughout central and eastern Europe, and the Textile House in Ljubljana had an awesome selection of used clothing for men, women and kids. I found a cool Dolce & Gabbana denim skirt for only €8!

Some of the other thrift shops I visited in Ljubljana were 2nd Chance, an upscale used clothing boutique, and the Moje Tvoje Kilo Shop which, as the name implies, sells used clothing by weight. When clothing is first put out in the shop, it costs €22 per Kg, but the price goes down as the week goes on and by Sunday you only pay €10 per kilo.

This was a really fun trip and we did a lot of hiking and visiting amazing places like Lake Bled and Postojna Cave. I really appreciated how the Slovenian people cared about their country and their amazing natural landscape and loved to show it off to visitors. I really can't wait to go back and explore more of this magical green country "on the sunny side of the alps".
